| Good that you found it though... always a relief to know what the problem was so that you don't reassemble without knowing for sure that the issue was addressed. And while bugs are being discussed (and you apparently have entomologist friends), can you inquire to these friends what the hell this thing is? 
I have more pics of it if needed, but that's the clearest. (I'm pretty sure it's not a crane fly - fuzzy/shorter legs, smaller wings, etc, but it was in a friend's kitchen and we had no idea what the hell it was.)
